Executive is a privately held hospitality and real estate organization with a diverse portfolio of hotels and development projects across North America, known for its entrepreneurial culture, long-term ownership mindset, and hands-on leadership approach.Job Description
Reporting to the CFO, the Vice President of Finance will oversee the strategic financial initiatives, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability. This pivotal role will significantly influence the company's growth trajectory by consistently guiding and informing key business and financial decisions. The VP of Finance plays a crucial part in the company's overall success by offering strategic insights across all financial matters.
Responsibilities
- Oversee financial controllers within our hotel portfolio.
- Advise on financial implications and risk of business activities, providing recommendations for mitigation.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial statement reporting.
- Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives, and providing guidance to controllers.
- Manage year-end financial statements and review engagement processes.
- Develop and implement key performance measures and conduct practice analysis.
- Establish and maintain stable cash-flow management policies and procedures.
- Manage all legal issues in collaboration with in-house legal counsel.
- Oversee preparation and filing of statutory reporting and other financial reports.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of facilitating progressive organizational change and development.
- Utilize excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Provide strong mentoring and coaching to a team with diverse levels of expertise.
- Perform accounting and reporting functions for real estate development projects.
- Collaborate with development and construction teams to establish schedules and budgets.
- Prepare and present construction financing proposals and draws to lenders.
- Maintain adequate supplier documentation.
- Ensure adherence to project costs and time schedules by working closely with development and construction teams.
- Conduct internal audits, with one visit to each location per year.
- Coordinate with external auditors.
- Analyze and interpret all financial reporting.
- Establish and review financial and personnel policies and standards.
- Liaise with corporate and hotel management staff to optimize operational results.
- Monitor risk management policies and procedures.
- Arrange financing and lines of credit.
- Analyze investment projects.
- Negotiate leases, union contracts, supplier contracts, and customer contracts.
- Review IT solutions and options for various business units.
- Monitor relevant tax and other legislation applicable to the business.
- Fulfill other tasks and functions as required and requested by the CFO/CEO.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of senior leadership experience in finance and administration, including at least 5 years at the VP or Senior Controller level.
- CPA designation required.
- Experience with IFRS reporting standards.
- Seasoned executive with extensive experience in private industry, preferably within owner-operated or privately held organizations.
- Proven background in a B2B operating environment.
- Real estate and development experience considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing and overseeing financial statements.
- Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate financial information to executive, operational, and ownership stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and team-development capabilities.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
